Dodd & Co was established
in November 1981.
This is a brief history of how we got to where
we are now |
|
|
The firm was initially run from Chatsworth
Square, Carlisle by Bill Dodd. Ian Brown joined Bill in March 1982 followed shortly after
by Alan McViety in April of the same year.
The firm then moved to premises on Fisher
Street in Carlisle. By this time there were
only a handful of staff.
Later in 1982 Alan opened the Penrith Office,
in the Cornmarket above the carpet shop. |

We soon outgrew our Carlisle premises and in
1984 expanded again into Broadacre House,
Lowther Street.
The firm was growing fast. Our Growth was brought
about predominantly by our proactive commercial
approach in addition to general accountancy advice.
Dodd & Co did not just give clients a set of accounts
many months after their year end and tell them how
much tax to pay. We looked at the clients business
from their perspective and using our knowledge and
expertise offered advice to improve their financial
performance. This is our continued approach today.
It may seem strange by recent standards, but at the
time this was quite a unique approach. The firm grew
rapidly by referral of very satisfied customers. In the
early years we were also pioneers in educating clients,
by running a series of seminars on topics as diverse as
marketing and farming - a trend that we continue and
encourage today. |

In 1985 a small office at Rosehill was
opened. Valerie Fisher became a partner
in the summer of 1986 and Bill Dodd, our
founder, left to join Lilliput Lane in early 1987. |
|
Jeanette Brown and Paul Kendall
became Partners. |
 |
|
|
| |
 |
|
| Gradually, as the volume of work and numbers of staff grew, we
expanded again from 2 small offices at Rosehill to take over more of the
building and in 1994 all staff from the city centre, moved
to Rosehill. We
also expanded at Penrith in the same year, acquiring Clint Mill. |
|
|
|
| |
 |
Martin Ward and Alison Johnston
became partners in 1999 followed by
Dean Johnston in 2000 |
|
An office presence in
Lancaster was formed |
 |
|
|
| |
 |
In January 2005 Robert Wharton made
partner followed in January 2006 by Bevan
Osgood and Rob Hitch in January 2007. |
|
| |
 |
|
In April 2007 the Carlisle office relocated again to a
new, purpose built and state of the art building on
Rosehill estate.
Penrith has also continued to expand, taking a further
floor in the Clint Mill building. We simply out grew our
previous premises and expansion into new offices has
given us the space to work more efficiently and continue
to provide the best possible services for our clients. |
