Scottish GMS Contract Changes 2014-15

On 23 December 2013 the BMA’s Scottish GP Committee announced it had agreed changes to the GMS (GP) contract for 2014-15. NHS Scotland claim the changes agreed will reduce bureaucracy and give doctors more time to spend with their patients.

Whilst full details are still to be released, the agreement includes the following:-

1) Removal of 264 points from QOF, leaving 659 in total.
2) Transfer of funding to core GMS.
3) Reinstatement of previous QOF timescales to 15 month timeframes.
4) Creation of a new “Quality and Safety” QOF domain.

The movement of funds from QOF to core funding would appear to provide better stability for practice finances. Once the details of how the funds are to be reallocated are available, it will be possible to assess the impact on individual practices.
