Exam success

Dodd & Co are delighted to announce the recent success of Darren Moynan & Brett Bennett in the Chartered Institute of Taxation examinations.

Both Darren and Brett now become Chartered Tax Advisors (CTA).

Darren, who is 25, joined Dodd & Co in July 2004. He qualified as a joiner in 2002 before going back into full time education to do A-levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Darren works as part of the personal tax department and specialises in personal tax, small business affairs and capital gains tax.

Darren said "after serving my time as a joiner, I realised that I wanted to do something more mentally stimulating. I therefore went back to school age 19 to complete my A-Levels. I would like to thank Mark Wilson (head of 6th form at St Aidans) and the partners at Dodd & Co for giving me the opportunities which they have".

Brett Bennett, who qualified as a chartered accountant in Australia where he originates, moved to the UK in 2003. Brett predominately specialises in corporate tax and dealing with the personal taxation affairs of company directors.

Brett commented "my wife and I decided to move to Cumbria after she had lived in Australia for 5 years. We were both ready for a change and thankfully I managed to get a job at Dodd & Co in the first week I was here. Although there are similarities between the Australian and UK tax systems, Dodd & Co obviously took a chance on me. It is therefore great to achieve this qualification and to be able to repay the faith and support shown by them over the years".

Bevan Osgood, personal tax partner at Dodd & Co welcomed the arrival of two newly qualified CTA " We are delighted for Darren and Brett to have both qualified as Chartered Tax Advisors. Only 29% of candidates in the country passed the examinations, which are seen as the premier qualification for those advising on taxation matters. This demonstrates the hard work and technical knowledge needed to be successful, and the level of achievement for both Darren and Brett".

Darren, who lives in Carlisle with his fiancé Claire and son Jake, enjoys playing football. Brett lives in Frizington with wife Ruth and daughter Tess and enjoys playing golf and cycling.
