A team of cyclists from Dodd & Co Chartered Accountants recently completed the Coast to Coast bike ride, raising money for the Special Care Baby Unit in Carlisle and the Centre for Assisted Reproduction in Gateshead.
The team completed the 150 miles bike ride raising £1,150 for the charities.
Darren Moynan, tax adviser from Dodd & Co took part to raise money for the SCBU in Carlisle after finding out first hand just how crucial their care is. Darren commented “Our son Jake spent his first six weeks at the special care unit so I know first hand the important role they play in the early weeks of premature babies. The unit are currently saving for a new CPAP machine, which is used to help babies breathe whilst their lungs develop, so the hardwork put in by the team has been worthwhile”.
Brett Bennett, who is a corporation tax adviser with the firm decided to raise money for the Centre in Gateshead after he and his wife used the facility to have their daughter Tess, who has just turned 5. Brett said ”My wife and I needed to have IVF treatment after it was diagnosed that a natural conception was impossible for us. It can be incredibly stressful for a young married couple who desperately want to start a family, but have an obstacle like ours put in front of us. The team at the unit were very sympathetic and sensitive to us all the time and did great work in regards to our treatment and this is a small gift back to the unit and others who face the same tests that we did.”
