Real Life, Real Work…

…Real Business, Real Growth

What Will It Entail?

The programme is aimed at young people who have an interest in working in an office environment – and not necessarily in an accountancy role – the course content is designed to have as wider relevance as possible.

It is a 26 week programme offering three strands – work skills, a level 2 qualification in bookkeeping and a block of practical real life work experience.

Our “traineeships” will enhance the work skills of young people by:

  • Providing workshops tailored to work skills required for an office environment
  • Delivering the workshops within our own offices
  • Providing work experience either in our own offices or via our professional network of contacts
  • Having qualified professional staff with years of business experience delivering the training

Work skills are developed through a series of workshops including:

  • Effectiveness at work
  • Self management skills
  • Managing your own health and safety
  • Working in teams
  • Searching for a job
  • Applying for jobs and interview skills

Dodd & Co is an accredited training centre of the International Association of Bookkeepers (IAB) and the programme will incorporate the IAB level 2 certificate in bookkeeping.

This qualification provides a great starting point for anyone interested in a career involving accountancy whether that be in a specialist accountancy role or as part of a wider administrative role.

This bookkeeping element of the trainee programme will be delivered by qualified accountants drawing on current best practice and real life experience, sharing their enthusiasm for the subject.

It is our aim that the work experience element of the traineeship will be in a professional office environment. Making use of our network of contacts we are well placed to tailor the experience to the individual goals of the trainees.

We have already received a great deal of positive interest both from prospective learners and employers.

As well as offering work experience placements, a number of local employers, have expressed an interest in offering apprenticeships or employment to young people on completion of this training with Dodd & Co.  We recruit four accounts apprentices each year and learners who successfully complete the programme will be able to apply for these positions.

The traineeship will be 26 weeks in duration and will run within the window September through to March each year to fit in with our business patterns.  The first programme will commence in September 2014.

The partners and I wanted to thank you again for your work this year on our behalf. We have found, since changing to your firm some time ago, that our lives have been made so much easier! We are very impressed and grateful for your attention to detail, your understanding of our practice and general practice in the whole, the sheer speed and helpfulness of your responses to our requests, questions and need for help. It really does make a difference to have a firm of accountants that understand general practice and the problems that we face, especially recently. We find the meetings with yourselves pleasant, easy to understand and easy to see where we can make improvements. I wish all GPs had accountants like yourselves! I am always happy to recommend to you friends and colleagues and would be more than happy for you to share this personal and practice recommendation with others.   Dr Andrew Dearden Roathwell Surgery (Senior Partner) and Treasurer of the British Medical Association (BMA)
