Surely as part of the charity and not for profit sector you should be able to keep your accounts and tax affairs simple? Wouldn’t your time be better spent on the important things like fundraising and helping your beneficiaries? We can help make this happen.
Our Charity and Not for Profit department has the know how about how charities work and the legal and regulatory requirements that they have to follow.
We can help you to prepare your year end accounts in the format set down by law. We will also help make sure that your accounts are in line with the Statement of Recommended Practice for Charities (“the SORP”) which is the standard that the Charity Commission has approved for preparing accounts.
Your year end accounts have to include a “Trustees Report” which should be prepared by the Trustees themselves. We can help you to draft this so that it includes all of the information needed by law, as well as qualitative information which funders and beneficiaries can not get by looking a the numbers alone.
Our aim when preparing your accounts is always to give you a useful document that you can use as a tool to promote your charity at the same time as meeting your legal requirements.
As charities are in a position of trust, it is understandable that their accounts often have to be scrutinised by an independent person. We can help you decide which type of scrutiny you need and then perform it, whether you need an Independent Examination or Reporting Accountants Report, or a full audit.
The general public often thinks that all charities are exempt from all taxes. Unfortunately, this is not true. We can help you to structure your activities in a way that maximises your exemption from corporation tax, and we can also to try to help you work through the minefield of VAT issues that charities often face.
