Learning is an integral part of Dodd & Co Limited. We are passionate about training and developing our team in the skills, knowledge and attitudes we need to support our success, in turn realising the full potential of each individual employee.

We also love to share our knowledge with anyone who wants to listen. We are keen to zap the myth that accountancy is boring and are well known in the business world for our seminar presentations covering everything from business start up, bookkeeping skills and Sage accountancy to our specialist areas, particularly topics relating to medical finance.

One of the key ways we encourage the individual development of technical knowledge is through supporting studies leading to a range of professional qualifications. Our tax and accounts staff typically have either a recognised professional qualification, or over 15 years experience in the job.  We are proud that the majority of our ACA staff working here at Dodd & Co were trained in house.

For our team, training starts on day one with the company induction “The Doddie Way”. New starters are given the “know how” to help them settle in quickly and to feel a part of the team. Everyone is assigned a training “buddy”, someone who is always on hand to help.

Our “Doddie Day” builds on the “Doddie Way”. We take time out to really get to grips with the ethos of Dodd & Co Limited and key skills behind our success. Emphasis is on soft skills – we cannot ignore the need for technical expertise but the right work ethics, communication skills, client care, and teamwork are equally important in setting us apart.

Career progression is punctuated by Doddie Development Workshops designed to ensure that progression to supervisory or management roles is supported with a “kit bag” of the soft skills required to deal confidently and competently with new responsibilities and new situations.

“Pow wows” are regularly held open forums focusing on the firm. They give everyone the opportunity to have an input and helps us to ensure we all “swim” in the same direction.

IIP LogoWe are recognised by a number of professional bodies as an employer who provides excellent training.  We are an approved training office for the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales), we have accredited employer status with the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) and have the Investor in People (IIP) award.

As a registered training firm for the ICAEW we have Chartered Accountant Status.  The ICAEW carry out regular reviews of all the firms who are authorised to train ACA students, and have in April 2014 completed the latest review visit for Dodd & Co.

We are delighted to have received a glowing report from the Institute and renewal of our training authorisation has been confirmed.  The ICAEW training manager who carried out the review commended us on “our commitment to ACA training and also on our formalised approach for all staff towards all types of personal and professional development”.

Another of our achievements is our ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) approved employer status.  We have platinum approval for trainee development in recognition of the high standard of training and support that we provide and we are also an ACCA approved employer for professional development.  We have been an ACCA approved employer for more than 10 years, with renewal required every three years to ensure that standards are maintained.

The partners and I wanted to thank you again for your work this year on our behalf. We have found, since changing to your firm some time ago, that our lives have been made so much easier! We are very impressed and grateful for your attention to detail, your understanding of our practice and general practice in the whole, the sheer speed and helpfulness of your responses to our requests, questions and need for help. It really does make a difference to have a firm of accountants that understand general practice and the problems that we face, especially recently. We find the meetings with yourselves pleasant, easy to understand and easy to see where we can make improvements. I wish all GPs had accountants like yourselves! I am always happy to recommend to you friends and colleagues and would be more than happy for you to share this personal and practice recommendation with others.   Dr Andrew Dearden Roathwell Surgery (Senior Partner) and Treasurer of the British Medical Association (BMA)
