If you wear a uniform to work and are responsible for the laundry of this uniform, then you should be eligible for a tax deduction from HMRC.

The fixed deduction for a dental nurse is currently £125 per year which in most cases will save you tax at 20%, so £25 per year.

You can backdate your claim by up to four years.  If you do this you could receive a tax repayment of up to £100.

Thereafter, HMRC will instruct your employer to deduct £25 less in every tax year so you will continue to benefit in future years.

You can also claim a deduction for the annual fee you pay to be a member of the General Dental Council (GDC) and if you are required to work from home, you can claim a working from home allowance of £6pw (previously £4pw for 2020/21 and earlier years).

You can submit a claim online by visiting www.gov.uk/tax-relief-for-employees or use the template here to complete and send to HMRC.
