My Dream Placement at Dodd & Co

After successfully applying for the Dream Placement scheme, I was selected to take part in a week’s placement with Dodd & Co at their Carlisle office. The placement interested me as I wish to forge a career in the financial sector and the advice and experience on offer from Dodd & Co was invaluable in bettering my understanding of the industry.

My week at Dodds was planned prior to my placement by Directors Alison and Jeanette, and HR adviser Nicky together with myself to ensure that my time in the office was spent experiencing every aspect of the company.

The week started with an introduction to practical accounting which proved useful for the week to come as the skills I learned on the first day were used throughout the duration of the placement.

IMG_0083The day that I enjoyed most was my trip to Edinburgh on the second day of my placement; this involved visiting another accountancy practice to gain an insight into a very different aspect of accounting, the insolvency side. During my visit with Jackie and Carol I also gained a substantial insight into Dodd Rescue and how they assist their clients. The day concluded with a personal tour of Edinburgh courtesy of Carol as well as a selfie in front of the castle!

Throughout my week I was also introduced to the company’s tax department, new Dodd Wealthcare Financial advice team, marketing team, the IT department and the small business team which prepared me for a short presentation which I delivered to the staff and training director, Alison on the last day of my placement.

Overall, I really enjoyed my week at Dodds as it allowed me to gain an insight, as well as practical experience within the financial industry, something that I would not be able to find elsewhere.

Thank you to all the staff that took the time to talk to me as well as answer my questions throughout the duration of the placement, you all made it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I hope to spend more time at Dodds in the future.
