Inspiring confidence

Governance has always been vitally important for the legal and effective running of charitable organisations. However, there have been a number of high-profile charity inquiries in the press over the last few years and the charity failings highlighted by these inquiries have served to undermine confidence in the charitable sector. Inspiring the public’s trust in your charity is therefore more important than ever and sound charity governance has a significant role to play in this.

The charity governance code starts with the foundation principle that all Trustees must understand their legal responsibilities. The code then develops the principles of leadership; integrity; decision making, risk and control; board effectiveness; diversity; and openness and accountability; all underpinning organisational purpose.

At Dodd & Co, we understand that there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to charity governance and the governance code must be implemented in a way that is focussed around each charity’s specific needs and organisational purposes.

We regularly assist Boards of Trustees to implement best practice and to ensure that appropriate and effective governance structures are in place, including providing trustee training on a wide range of subjects and assisting with the implementation of financial processes and controls.

At Dodd & Co, we inspire confidence with our specialist knowledge and decades of experience advising charities. This in turn can help you to inspire the public’s confidence in your charity.

If you would like to discuss how your charity can implement the governance code then please call Joanne Thomlinson on 01228 530913 or email her at joanne@doddaccountants.co.uk.

Quickbooks has transformed the way we do bookkeeping for our businesses, saving huge amounts of time and effort. The package is intuitive and very easy to use. The management reports, and ability to file VAT returns almost automatically mean that we are always on top of things. The app is great for checking progress ‘on the go’, and scanning receipts to keep fully up to date. And with the Dodd & Co team able to access our data in real-time, communication has never been so straightforward.
