Another year of Dodd & Co Donations

Dodd & Co support some amazing causes with a donation of over £4000 following the festive season.

Every year, in lieu of sending corporate Christmas cards, Dodd & Co staff are asked to put forward their suggestions for charities that are close to their heart, or simply deserve some recognition and support for the fantastic work that they do.

After careful consideration of the extensive list put forward, the Dodd & Co Christmas Charities of 2023 were chosen.

First, The Well Communities, this charity was set up to help people recover from drug and alcohol addiction, giving them a range of high-quality services, which are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Their mission is to build a movement that supports sustainable recovery for people facing severe and complex social exclusion by valuing and harnessing the strengths, skills, partnerships and other assets present in every community.

A donation was also made to Andy’s Man Club, a men’s suicide prevention charity, offering free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom and online. They want to end stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help them through the power of conversation. The charity was set up in memory of Andrew Barnes, a man who sadly took his own life aged 23 in early 2016 with no inkling that he was suffering or struggling. With a service used on a weekly basis by over 3000 men, and an army of 900+ facilitators, the Andy’s Man Club movement is continuing to grow on a week-by-week basis and now includes clubs at Workington, Maryport, Cockermouth and Carlisle.

Dodd & Co also donated to The Pot Place Garden Centre Ukraine Appeal. The Pot Place Garden Centre have been supporting the emergency services in Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion last year. They have raised the funds for 5 ambulances, 4 paramedic motorcycles, a 4wd car plus a huge amount of medical and humanitarian aid and equipment. All of these things have been delivered to the Lviv EMD (Emergency Medical Aid and Disaster Medicine) who distribute them to frontline areas.

In addition to the donations made to the chosen charities, Dodd & Co also made donations to Penrith and Carlisle Food Banks, who work hard collecting and distributing food and essential items to local families in need. Further donations were made to Cash For Kids, Carlisle Youth Zone and Cumbria Community Foundation Winter Warmth Appeal. All these charities provide vital support to families experiencing challenges, brought on even more by the cost-of-living crisis.

The donations across the charities The Well Communities, Andy’s Man Club, The Pot Place Garden Centre Ukraine Appeal, Food Banks and the Winter Warmth Appeal amounted to just over a fantastic £4000.

Joanne Thomlinson, Partner at Dodd & Co, said “We are thrilled to be able to support such amazing charities again this year, despite the tough job of having to choose between the staff nominations – all of which were wonderful causes! This year’s chosen charities work so hard to support local people and families and those further afield during some of the most difficult times of their lives. Their work is invaluable and we hope this year’s donations go some way to support their fantastic initiatives.”
