Dodd & Co Know How… to Connect with Young People

On the final day of National Apprenticeship week, the Doddies have taken time to reflect on the various events in which they have been involved.

Monday saw an enjoyable workshop being given to year 9 – 13 pupils at Richard Rose Central Academy.  Jeanette Brown, Tony Ferguson and Stu Bell addressed the students explaining about the role of accountants within businesses and the importance of personal budgeting. The workshop was followed by an advice session and was attended by local councillor John Stevenson MP.

On Wednesday the Doddies attended a National Apprenticeship business breakfast in which local employers and training providers gave examples of their recent success stories with regards to their apprentices. We found it both refreshing and encouraging to see the wide variety of apprenticeships on offer and to learn, first hand, how the young people in this area have benefitted from the schemes.

Thursday’s event was an address to the year 10 pupils of Trinity School. Loosely based on Monday’s workshop session, Jeanette and Tony gave a presentation based upon their own personal route through the accounting hierarchy, from leaving school through college and university, into the workplace and ultimately obtaining their professional accountancy qualifications.

After undertaking such a varied number of events this week, Dodd & Co are confident in their approach towards apprenticeships and are proud of the internal training programme which is in place. We continue to look out for the next generation of accountants and business advisors. If you are a young person who is interested to learn more about a career in accountancy please forward an e-mail expressing your interest to nicky@doddaccountants.co.uk
