Doddie Calendar celebrates ‘The Simple Things’

Dodd & Co celebrated and recognised the special moments of 2020 in their annual calendar competition, with an array of amazing images from entrants right across Cumbria and beyond. Dedicating the 2021 edition to “The Heroes of 2020”.

The chosen theme for the 2021 calendar was ‘The Simple Things’. There’s no doubt that the pandemic made everybody stop, take stock, and really appreciate the simple things a little more than usual, so this is what Dodd & Co decided to highlight, encouraging entrants to celebrate the special moments that helped everybody keep going through an unprecedented year.

The Cumbrian based accountancy firm have been creating their popular ‘Doddie Calendar’ for many years. Each year brings a new and exciting theme for budding photographers, who send in their images for a chance to win a place in the Annual Calendar. Countless entries are forwarded every year, but only twelve photographs manage to make the final cut! This year was no different, with even more people getting involved to send in their treasured images of ‘simple things’ that had meant so much to them over the year. The heart-warming collection of photographs consisted of daily walks, family time in the sunshine, virtual catch ups and quizzes and sharing a brew over the fence – to name but a few!

The first two pages of the calendar were dedicated to ‘the heroes of 2020’ – a wonderful tribute to the NHS, keyworkers and everyone who worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic. They included images of staff from The Cumberland Infirmary and Granville Court Care Home, in their PPE, working tirelessly to keep us all safe. As a big thank you for all their hard work and for featuring in the calendar, Dodds organised some festive treats for them to enjoy over the Christmas period.

All twelve image winners received a bottle of fizz and a copy of the calendar for themselves. Excitingly, for the second year running, the firm offered an overall ‘best image’ star prize of a £100 voucher, for a place of the winner’s choosing, which Dodd & Co put to a public vote. It was a close call with their top 3 images in the running, but the showstopper October image photographed by Louise Benn took the win.

Alison Johnston, Partner at Dodd & Co, and part of the judging team for deciding the final twelve, said “It was incredibly special to see such a wonderful collection of images entered this year, full of positivity and brighter memories made during a tough time. Creating the Doddie Calendar is something we really look forward to every year and we hope it brings a smile to the homes of the winners, our clients, and staff. Thank you and congratulations to the 2021 winners!”

The 2022 Doddie Calendar theme will be announced in summer, so keep an eye on the firm’s website and social media pages if you fancy the chance of seeing your photograph in print.
