Doddie Joanne wins ‘Cumbrian Woman of the Year’ award

Joanne Thomlinson, Small Business and Charities Manager with Dodd & Co has won the prestigious ‘Cumbrian Woman of the Year’ award at a private lunch event held at The Belsfield Hotel, Windermere.

She was nominated after her tireless efforts and continuous campaigning over the last four years to free her brother, John Armstrong and five other British men who were jailed in India on illegal weapons charges.

Following the men’s arrest in October 2013, Joanne embarked on a national and international campaign which eventually led to their acquittal four years later.

The campaign saw her regularly visiting Downing Street, meeting with MPs and government leaders, dealing with the substantial press interest and visiting the prison and authorities in India itself.

Joanne led the campaign whilst also managing to continue with her personal professional development and raising a young family.

Alison Johnston, Partner of Dodd & Co said “We are absolutely thrilled that Joanne has received this fantastic recognition for her incredible efforts and achievements over a tough few years. Her positive attitude (both at home and at work) has demonstrated true grit and determination and as a firm, we were happy to provide all of the support, encouragement and flexibility that she needed. Our staff were brilliant and behind her every step of the way even starting a ‘feed the boys’ campaign of their own – donating food and toiletries to send a box a week to the prison. All of #teamdoddies are so very proud of her.”

Joanne said “I am so shocked to receive this award especially when so many other amazing Cumbrian Women were nominated. It’s a true honour and the best way to celebrate exactly one year to the day that John was released and just caps off a brilliant year for our family.”
