Dodds Celebrate NorSCA Awards Nominations

Dodd & Co are delighted to announce that two of their part qualified Chartered Accountants have been shortlisted for the Northern Society Presidents’ Professional Stage Award.

Jamie Dobson passed his final ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants) exams in November 2017, and Lewis Dickinson is currently studying for his final exams this coming November. Both have been shortlisted for the final 6 of the Advanced Stage of the President’s Award, having been chosen for demonstrating; ‘Academic Excellence’ by finishing in the top 20 of highest overall marks in the Northern Society Order of Merit and ‘Exceptional Contribution’ to their organisation.

Jamie and Lewis began their careers through the Dodd & Co apprenticeship programme. Jamie, having completed his A-levels, moved on to gain work experience at a few local accountancy firms. He said “I was first attracted to Dodd’s “work hard play hard” approach, together with a young and forward thinking workforce, it was an obvious choice for my career plan.”

Lewis approached Dodd & Co whilst studying at Richard Rose Central Academy sixth form. He gained work experience in the accounts and support department of Dodd & Co, which enabled him to secure a permanent position at the firm. Lewis said “It became clear during my work experience that Dodd & Co is a friendly, fun and growing business which would and has offered lots of opportunities for career progression.”

During their time with Dodd & Co, both Jamie and Lewis have gradually taken on more responsibility, becoming invaluable members of the team. Jamie, aged 24, has worked for Dodd’s for over 5 years and specialises in accounts for charities and not-for-profit organisations. Lewis, aged 22 has worked for Dodd’s for over 4 years, building his experience in a number of areas of practice including family businesses. Jamie and Lewis are also part of the Dodd & Co CAT (Cloud Accounting Team).

They were both very surprised when nominated for the prestigious award, but delighted to have been recognised and are looking forward to attending the dinner in Newcastle.

Jeanette Brown, Partner at Dodd & Co said “We are extremely proud of Jamie and Lewis, continuing to excel in their achievements, not only in their fantastic contribution to our team and our clients, but also in their wider support for their local communities through their voluntary work outside of the office. It’s not something either of them shout about, and in today’s “look at me” world, their low-key, hard-working approach is a rare and admirable characteristic and demonstrates great integrity.  They both very much deserve their nominations and we wish them both the very best of luck in the final.”

The Northern Society Awards will be presented at the Northern Society Business and Awards Dinner on Friday 12 October 2018 at the Civic Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne. The evening will be hosted by Alan Johnston, Northern Society President with guest speakers ICAEW President Paul Aplin and Rt Hon Alan Johnson. Lewis Dickinson, Jamie Dobson and Jeanette Brown (Partner) from Dodd’s will be attending.
