We are aware that HMRC have issued a “nudge” letter to many limited companies stating they need to register for VAT because their turnover has exceeded £90,000.

Unfortunately, HMRC have got this very wrong for some of our clients!

For many businesses VAT registration is not mandatory, often this is because most of their income is VAT exempt and so doesn’t count towards their VAT registration threshold. This is frequently the case for dental practices, property rental businesses and many in the healthcare sector.

If you have received one of these letters from HMRC, and are unsure whether you need to take any action, please contact your usual Dodd & Co adviser.

We can advise you appropriately and if necessary, liaise with HMRC on your behalf.
