Payroll Promotions

Dodd & Co are pleased to be able to announce two promotions within one of Cumbria’s leading accountancy firms with effect from 1 January 2018.

The firm which now employs over 150 people across its 2 offices in Carlisle and Penrith, has promoted two members of staff to management positions.

Helen Tyson has become Assistant Payroll Manager in the Penrith office and Gillian Arthur takes on the same role in their Carlisle office.

The firm has seen a significant increase over the past few years of clients handing over their payroll processing.  Increasingly more complex and time consuming demands are being placed upon employers to ensure they keep up to date with the latest legislation.  The introduction of automatic enrolment is a further administrative burden for many clients. Dodd & Co have a breadth of payroll clients, some with only 1 or 2 employees and others with employees into the hundreds – stretching across a variety of industries. With the increase in demand for payroll services the department within Dodd & Co has increased and as such these new promotions were well deserved.

Helen, a former QEGS student who studied at Sheffield Hallam University, joined the payroll team at Dodd & Co in 2006. She has particular expertise in GP practices and the different rules and procedures involved with the NHS pension schemes. Helen enjoys the diversity of the role with all the recent changes and that there is always something new to deal with so there is no such thing as a ground hog day. She comments “I really enjoy working with our fantastic team at Penrith and look forward to building on our knowledge in specialist areas such as healthcare.  At the moment we are busy helping clients set up their cloud based payroll software, organising the set up and processing.” Helen, who lives in Penrith with her husband and two children, is a member of Eden Runners, enjoys taking part in local runs and dragging the kids along to Penrith park run on a Saturday morning.

Gillian, who is from Carlisle, has worked in finance and payroll for 13 years, joining Dodd & Co in 2015.  Gillian looks after a variety of payroll clients, from farmers to solicitors and, like Helen, enjoys the variety of the role in an ever changing profession. She enjoys training and mentoring other team members and also helping train clients that prefer to process their own payroll. Living in Carlisle with her partner and son, Gillian is looking forward to the new challenges that this role will bring and implementing new ideas, making a difference to the team and this important service offered by Dodd & Co. Gillian says “I have ample experience in payroll and the technical ability that is required. I am currently enjoying learning about all the new cloud technology available for our clients and look forward to helping them implement this into their businesses.
