SEISS Update

Self-Employment Income Support Scheme

As you may know, the above scheme will provide support for self employed taxpayers that have been adversely affected by Covid19. To be eligible, self-employed trading profits must be no more than £50,000 and at least equal to any non-trading income. Full details of the scheme can be found on our website here.

HMRC is in the process of writing to those that may be eligible for the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme with an invitation to apply online. The online claims service is due to open on 13 May but taxpayers are being given an individual date and time they can make their claims from in order to stagger the significant number of claims that are expected.

Unfortunately HMRC is not allowing tax agents to submit this claim on your behalf. However, HMRC has given assurances that the online application will be simple to follow. As always, you can contact us at any time with any queries you may have.

To claim, you will need your:

  • Unique Taxpayer Reference
  • National Insurance Number
  • Government Gateway User ID and Password
  • Bank Account Number and Sort Code (that you want the grant to be paid into)

If you don’t have a Government Gateway account then this can be set up at the same time that you make the claim.  You will not need to submit any figures or calculations as HMRC already have the relevant information at their end from your tax returns.

Once an application has been submitted HMRC will inform you immediately if your grant is approved and the payment will be made into your bank within 6 working days.

HMRC is also inviting those who think they may be eligible under the scheme to go online and check their eligibility ahead of the online claims service opening:

https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/self-employment-support/enter-unique-taxpayer-reference

To complete the eligibility checker, a Unique Taxpayer Reference and National Insurance Number will be needed. Once this check is complete then those eligible will be given a date to submit their claim.
