Making Tax Digital

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is an initiative by the government to make the UK have the most up to date digital system.  Its aim is to make it easier for businesses and individuals to get their tax right and keep on top of their affairs.

  • 2019 – Making VAT Digital
  • 2020 – Making TAX Digital

Initially it is affecting businesses that have a turnover greater than the VAT threshold (£85,000) and are VAT registered.

It will require you to submit your VAT records digitally but if you are thinking, I already do, then if you are doing this via the Government Gateway this will no longer be an option.

The Government Gateway that you currently submit your VAT returns through will be no more!

Your VAT period will dictate when this happens:

So what do you need to do?

  • Move (or upgrade) to software that is MTD compatible – ask us we can help
  • Use a bookkeeper (you need to ensure they are MTD ready) – ask us we can provide names of bookkeepers
  • Use our specially adapted Dodd & Co spreadsheet and we can submit your VAT – ask us for more information
  • Dodd & Co can prepare & submit your VAT on your behalf – we can provide a quote for costings
